We offer several obedience classes:

Beginning / CGC Prep

Length:
10 weeks, 55 minutes per week
Description:
Basic obedience and preparation for the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test. You will learn to teach your dog to heel, sit, stay, down, and come as well as practice for the CGC test. The CGC test will be held on the last week of class.
Class Fees:
$140 ($115 for Active Members)
There is a $10 discount available to everyone with proof of adoption from an animal shelter or rescue organization.
Age of Dog:
6 months and older
Requirements:
Dogs must be current on DHPP and Rabies vaccinations. Pre-enrollment is required. Download a registration packet or contact us for a registration packet.

Open / Utility Proofing

Length:
Drop-in (1 session), about 2 hours
The first hour will focus on Open exercises. The second hour will focus on Utility exercises. You can attend one or both sections.
Description:

This class is designed to improve skills and proof exercises to prepare for competition. Obedience should be fun for dog and human. Exercises will focus on lots of positive rewards and breaking down the exercises into fun, rewardable chunks. Participant input, expertise, and ideas will be valued and spotlighted. Lots of different ideas will support different training methods and individual needs.

Exercises to focus on:

  • Open and Utility Heeling: figure 8 and signal exercise
  • Open: dumbbell retrieve, broad jump, command discrimination and drop on recall
  • Utility: directed jumping, directed retrieve, scent discrimination, moving stand

Schedule:

  • The first 3 weeks of the month will focus on individual exercises
  • The 4th week of the month will be individual run-throughs
  • No class on 5th week of month or on holidays

Participants need to bring:

  • 6ft Leash and collar (martingale, chain, prong are suggested)
  • 3 Plastic lids (yogurt or cottage cheese lids are the best)
  • Toys AND high value treats
  • Dumbbell
  • 3 Utility gloves
  • Scent articles (wood or metal and leather). If you are just beginning with scent articles you should have a tie-down board or plastic fence netting. We will provide examples in class of what to use.
Class Fees:
$15 for one class or $20 for both classes
(Active Members: $12 for one class or $18 for both classes)
Age of Dog:
6 months and older
Requirements:
Participants and dogs must have some experience and training in the basic skills and exercises of the Open and/or Utility Obedience classes. Dogs must be current on DHPP and Rabies vaccinations.

Novice

Length:
Drop-in class (1 session), about 60 minutes
Combined with Open and Utility
Description:
Continues your dog's training and goes into off-leash work. Prepares those wishing to compete in Novice obedience for the CD title.
Class Fees:
$15 ($12 for Active Members)
Age of Dog:
6 months and older
Requirements:
For dogs that have completed a Beginning course. Dogs must be current on DHPP and Rabies vaccinations.

Combined with Novice and Utility
Description:
Prepares you to compete in the Open ring for a CDX title. Learn to teach your dog the retrieve, drop on recall, high jump, and broad jump.
Class Fees:
$18 ($14 for Active Members)
Age of Dog:
6 months and older
Requirements:
For dogs that have a CD title or the approval of the class instructor. Dogs must be current on DHPP and Rabies vaccinations.
