Board & Officers

Jackie Smith

Jackie Smith

President

I started training an American Foxhound at SLDTC in September 1972 and joined the Club the next year. In 1975 we got the Foxhound a friend, a Golden Retriever that earned her CDX, followed by a Yellow Labrador that earned her CDX, a Black Labrador that earned her UD, TT, CGC and was a therapy dog. Now have a Black Labrador with a CGC, RN and so far a CD and does Canine Freestyle now for fun. This is the ninth year that I have been president of SLDTC. In the past I have been Vice President, Legislative Chairman (formerly a board position) and Welfare Chairman.

I moved to San Leandro in 1992 and started taking my Tibetan Terrier, Kira, to basic obedience classes at SLDTC. By the time I finished our "beginning" class, I was hooked and looked at training in a more competitive light. I got a CD on Kira and was just about to show her in Open when she died unexpectedly of liver failure at the age of 7. When I decided to get a new dog, I wanted one with more interest in working and decided on a miniature poodle. On January 31, 2000 "Zipper" (Janco's On the Fly) was born. Zipper got his CD in April 2003, his CDX in November 2003, his UD in September 2005 and his UDX in November 2006. I am currently trying for an OTCH with Zipper, but the competition is so tough, we may reconsider that goal at year's end.

Rebecca Logsdon

Rebecca Logsdon

Secretary

I first became involved with SLDTC in the Spring of 2001 when I enrolled my Sheltie, Coulter, in Beginning Obedience. It was only meant to be a confidence booster for my shy tri-guy, but it turned out to be my entry into the world of dog sports. By the end of 2001, I was a Club member. The following year, I joined the Board as the Social / Welfare Chairperson. I have been the Club's Secretary since 2005.

I have owned Shetland Sheepdogs since 1995, beginning with my rescue boy, Blue (Trilight Seasons Change). I actively train in Obedience, Rally, Agility and Freestyle. Currently, I am competing in Obedience and Rally. One of these days, I'll get brave enough to compete in Agility as well. My shelties and I have had a lot of fun since joining SLDTC. We've met a lot of great dogs--and a lot of great dog people.

Treasurer

I have been a member of the club since 1985 when I was training my black Lab, Shasta. I have since had German Shepherds and Mixed Breeds. I currently have a German Shepherd, Hackett, and a Mixed Breed, Raleigh. She is registered with the Mixed Breed Dog Club of California which allows her to earn the same obedience and rally-o titles as pure-bred dogs. She has a CGC and a MB-CD. I have been Treasurer since 2000 and has previously served as Training Coordinator and as assistant trainer. I am also a CGC evaluator.

Connie Holm

Connie Holm

Trial Secretary

I started training dogs around 1992 with my first labrador. and joined the club shortly thereafter. I started in the Tuesday beginning class and went on to the advanced novice and open classes and private training. I got a UD with my lab. I later got a border collie and trained to a CDX. The border collie is basically retired from obedience due to problems with jumping but probably will be doing rally. I now have a young male lab who is just starting training. In the club I started out doing the legislative position on the board but went on to become president, chairman of two workshops, and trial secretary.

Mary Bayley

Mary Bayley

Training Coordinator

By day I am a mild mannered insurance salesperson.
By night I train my dogs.

I have been owned by my dogs for about 10 years now. When I got my first Jack Russell terrier I was told that I needed to get started on obedience training right away. I did. I love doing things with my dogs. I compete in Earthdog and have titled 4 of my dogs in earthdog. I am an Earthdog judge. I have placed CDX's on two of my dogs. I volunteer with Anghus in dog therapy. I am currently the Training Coordinator for the club and have learned a lot from all of our different trainers.

Social / Welfare Programs

I have been a member of the club about 15 years. I have been the Social/Welfare Chairperson for 2 years. On Tuesday nights, I am the Assistant Trainer. I have also served as Legislative Chairperson (formerly a board position) and as Trial Secretary.

I decided to join the club after taking my first "show" dog, a standard wirehair dachshund, through the beginning obedience class. I have shown one dog to a championship and several dogs to CDX and RN. All my dogs have earned a CGC certificate and many of them have been therapy dogs. I currently compete in obedience and rally, train in agility and play with freestyle with my two dogs, a miniature wirehair dachshund and an Irish wolfhound.
